The Lighthouse 600 and AlpenGlow 500 are rechargeable area lanterns with USB device output, but their documented priorities differ. Goal Zero adds independently controlled panels and a hand crank; BioLite emphasises CRI 90 white light, colour modes, and a smaller body.

Output and Runtime

Goal Zero publishes a 600-lumen maximum, with up to 320 hours using one side on low and 180 hours using both sides on low. BioLite publishes 500 lumens on high, five hours at high output, and up to 200 hours on low. Those maximum runtimes belong to low-output modes and have not been independently reproduced by The Lightie.

Charging and Emergency Backup

The Lighthouse 600 combines USB charging with a hand crank intended for short emergency top-ups, and provides a regulated 5V/1.5A USB-A output. The AlpenGlow 500 uses a Micro-USB input and provides a 5V/2.4A USB-A output from its 6400mAh battery. A hand crank adds resilience when stored charge is exhausted, while the BioLite's higher published USB current can be more useful when the lantern is already charged.

Light Character and Controls

Goal Zero's two light panels can operate independently to trade coverage against runtime. BioLite publishes warm and cool white modes, CRI 90, colour modes, single-side lighting, and red light. That makes the AlpenGlow more flexible for meals and ambient use, while the Lighthouse has the more explicitly emergency-oriented control and charging design.

Portability and Weather Information

Goal Zero lists the Lighthouse 600 at 498 g. BioLite lists the AlpenGlow 500 at 380 g with IPX4 water resistance. Which Should You Choose?

Choose the Lighthouse 600 when a hand-crank fallback, two-sided area lighting, and emergency versatility matter most. Choose the AlpenGlow 500 when lower weight, CRI 90 white light, and ambient modes matter more. For long-term readiness, either lantern still needs a documented charging routine and periodic checks.
